Organization Profile Guide

Overview

Your organization profile powers how GrantsPath filters opportunities and calculates Fit Scores. The more accurate your profile is, the fewer “not eligible” grants you’ll waste time on and the better your recommendations will be.

Key Profile Sections

  • Organization details: Legal name, address, and contact information (keep this consistent with SAM.gov when relevant)
  • Organization type: Tribal government, Native nonprofit, education entity, etc.
  • Focus areas: The work you do (e.g., education, public safety, housing, health)
  • Geography: Communities served and where the project work will occur
  • Funding preferences: Typical award size, cost share capability, and timelines you can support
  • Eligibility signals: Common qualifiers that grantmakers use to include/exclude applicants
  • How Your Profile Improves Matching

The system uses your profile to:

  • Calculate Fit Scores for each available grant
  • Recommend grants most relevant to your work
  • Filter out ineligible opportunities
  • Prioritize grants matching your funding preferences
  • Where to update your profile

    1. Open Profile from the sidebar

    2. Review each section and fill in missing information

    3. Save changes, then return to Search or Recommendations to see updated matches

    Tips for an Effective Profile

  • Be specific about focus areas (broad profiles match everything and lower usefulness)
  • Keep geography realistic (match where you can actually deliver the project)
  • Update the profile when priorities change (new programs, new service area, staffing changes)
  • Use consistent organization details across systems (SAM.gov, Grants.gov, internal records)
  • Be honest about capacity (cost share, reporting burden, and award sizes you can manage)
  • What Happens Next

    Once your profile is complete:

    1. The system calculates matches for all available grants

    2. Recommendations appear on your dashboard

    3. You can search for specific grants or browse by category

    4. Bookmark grants to track them over time
