Renewal Generation

Overview

Many federal grants offer renewal or continuation funding. GrantsPath generates renewal applications from your prior award data — pulling performance history, budget actuals, and compliance records into a draft that builds on what you've already accomplished.

This feature is available on Sovereign plan and above.

When Renewal Generation Is Available

Renewal generation activates when:

  • An active award in your Sovereign Vault is approaching its project period end date
  • The original NOFO or award terms indicate renewal eligibility
  • You have at least one performance reporting period completed
  • What It Pulls From

  • Performance history — Outcomes achieved, outputs delivered, and milestones met from your progress reports
  • Budget actuals — How funds were actually spent vs. the original budget
  • Compliance record — Clean audit history, on-time reporting, and any resolved findings
  • How to Use

    1. Open an active award that's approaching renewal

    2. Click Draft Renewal when the option appears

    3. Review the pre-populated sections — the draft draws from your award history

    4. Edit and strengthen the narrative, especially the "what we accomplished" and "what we'll do next" sections

    5. Export the renewal draft for submission

    Tips

  • Start the renewal process at least 60 days before the project period ends — many agencies require 90-day advance notice for continuation funding
  • A strong renewal draft emphasizes outcomes achieved, not just activities completed
  • If you had any audit findings that were resolved, describe the resolution — reviewers see corrective action as a sign of mature grant management
